Museum of Village Life
Saint-Privat has two wonderful museums. The first is the Museum of Village Life, depicting life in the village before this modern age. Visit reconstructions of the blacksmith’s forge, the butcher's shop, the school, and the general store. See the farming tools used by farmers in the last century. See the home life of villagers, the clothes they wore, and the way they lived then. All of the items have been kindly donated by inhabitants of Saint-Privat and neighbouring villages.
Model Buildings Museum
The second museum is the Museum of Model Buildings with an amazing collection of miniature French cathedrals and castles. Each is perfectly reproduced on a scale of 1/100, and captures the exquisite detail of the originals. They were all made by Doctor Nicolas over many years.
Library
On Wednesdays Madame Clairaud an employee of the commune and Saturdays one of the volunteers will be at the library, which is situated near the church in the old presbytery. There is a large variety of books ranging from the classics to modern novels, history books, biographies, books on the Perigord region, travel, cooking and gardening books.
You can also request a book and it can be made available from other libraries within a few days. Rediscover the joy of reading, and in Saint-Privat, it’s free!
